2010 Awards of Excellence Recipients

Best New Facility, Large District:

Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District, Truckee Community Center

Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District won the large district award for Best New Facility in the state by the California Association of Recreation and Park Districts (CARPD). The award was part of CARPD’s annual conference in Monterey May 13-15.  

The Truckee Community Center:

  • 40,000 sq. ft. facility
    • Two court gymnasium
    • Preschool/afterschool
    • Dance/ Exercise/ Community Rooms
    • Two climbing walls
    • Kitchen facilities Seating areas
    • Indoor & outdoor fireplaces
    • Public art
  • $785,000 in grants
  • $6 million under budget
  • Land donated
  • Grand Opening attendance, 3,500
Truckee Community Center 2010

CARPD was established in 1958 and is dedicated to improving the quality and efficiency of California’s recreation and park districts.  Through two joint powers authorities, the 65 recreation and park districts that are members of CARPD are eligible for reduced rates on worker compensation coverage and liability/property damage insurance – saving local communities thousands of dollars.  Each spring, CARPD hosts an annual conference and awards competition to recognize outstanding programming, facilities, and service to the community.
