2010 Awards of Excellence Recipients

Environmental Education/Interpretation:

Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District

Monterey Peninsul Regional Park District won the award for Environmental Education/Interpretation in the state by the California Association of Recreation and Park Districts (CARPD). The award was part of CARPD’s annual conference in Monterey on April 13-15.  

In only two years, MPRPD accomplished the following:

  • 50+ new and expanded business and community partnerships
  • Creation of a list-serve of more than 1900 members
  • Established cross-generational, safe, and educational outdoor expeeriences
  • Increased the name recognition and branding opportunities for the District
  • Developed Community stewardship and restoration program (ALIVE, Act-Locally-In-Volunteer-Endeavors)
  • Initiated an independent annual community-sponsored Earth Day event
  • Developed "Give a Green Day" group projects program
  • Achieved revenue of $28,500 in one season

CARPD was established in 1958 and is dedicated to improving the quality and efficiency of California’s recreation and park districts.  Through two joint powers authorities, the 65 recreation and park districts that are members of CARPD are eligible for reduced rates on worker compensation coverage and liability/property damage insurance – saving local communities thousands of dollars.  Each spring, CARPD hosts an annual conference and awards competition to recognize outstanding programming, facilities, and service to the community.
