2010 Awards of Excellence Recipients
Outstanding Large District:
Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District
Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District won the award for Outstanding Large District in the state by the California Association of Recreation and Park Districts (CARPD). The award was part of CARPD’s annual conference in Monterey on May 13-15.
- Constructed 40,000 sq. ft. Truckee Community Center in 2009
- Opened a private golf course to the public in 2008
- Established a sailing program in 2007
- Received California Energy Commission grant for energy saving measures in 2006
- Renovated the community pool in 2005
- Completed Phase 2 of River View Sports Park in 2003
- Completed the outdoor ice skate rink in 2001
- Built a handicap accessible fishing pier in 2000
- Built a second skate park in 1999

CARPD was established in 1958 and is dedicated to improving the quality and efficiency of California’s recreation and park districts. Through two joint powers authorities, the 65 recreation and park districts that are members of CARPD are eligible for reduced rates on worker compensation coverage and liability/property damage insurance – saving local communities thousands of dollars. Each spring, CARPD hosts an annual conference and awards competition to recognize outstanding programming, facilities, and service to the community.
