Update November 2010

CARPD Member Districts truly add value to many areas of the community in terms of environmental practices and stewardship of acres of parklands dedicated to green space, trees and landscaping. The CARPD Environmental Report Card Program is a means by which Districts can self evaluate and identify areas to improve operational policies that promote environmental sustainability.

Last year CARPD challenged its Member Districts to self evaluate their current environmental sustainability practices by responding to the series of environmental sustainability questions (Report Card). While not all Member Districts participated, the responses for the many that did were surprising. Unfortunately, the results noted that very little was being done by some districts to be environmentally sensitive and sustainable; while many others were very involved. After a review of the Report Card scores submitted in 2009, it was determined that Arcade Creek Recreation & Park District was at the very top achieving a score of 80 plus.

Over the last few months, we have heard from many districts that have been even more engaged in their environmental sustainability practices, particularly as they attempt to address reductions in funding and resources. These efforts are commendable and thus we are again asking Districts to complete the Environmental Report Card and update their 2009 responses.

An acknowledgement presentation of those districts that achieve the highest level will be presented at the Annual Conference to be held in Monterey California, April 14-16, 2011.

The enclosed Environmental Report Card has been provided for your use and can also be obtained on the carpd.net webpage.
