The California Association of Recreation of Parks Districts (CARPD) Awards of Distinction Program annually acknowledges the excellence of districts, individuals, organizations, innovative recreation programs and parks facility improvements.

Awards will be presented on May 5, 2012, at the CARPD Conference, Awards Banquet at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Sacramento.

Deadline for submittals: March 25, 2012.

Award Categories – Districts:

Outstanding Large District – Any member District with annual revenue of $2 million or more that has shown innovative programming, produced events, or built facilities that go “above and beyond” the usual recreation and park scope.

Outstanding Small District – Any member District with annual revenue of less than $2 million that has shown innovative programming, produced events, or built facilities that go “above and beyond” the usual recreation and park scope.

Outstanding Environmental Program – A program that supports environmental sustainability in the operation and management of district facilities.

Outstanding Innovative Programming – Give detailed descriptions of imaginative or different directions in recreation programming or park maintenance and operations.

Outstanding Marketing and Communication – Copies or prints of brochures, guides and web site pages, along with detailed descriptions of the nomination, should be submitted.

Outstanding Newspaper Coverage of District – Submit copies and give detailed explanation, with backup data such as photos, newspaper articles, or editorials.

Outstanding New Facility – Provide detailed descriptions and photographs of new facility(ies) that demonstrates outstanding design and cost efficiency.

Outstanding Renovated Facility – Provide before- and after-descriptions and photographs of an outstanding facility renovation project in your District.

Award Categories: Individuals & Groups: 

Outstanding Community Organization  – Honors a public or private club or special interest group that has made a significant contribution to a District recreation or park program.

Outstanding Youth – Honors a young person who has provided outstanding participation, volunteer service, or other significant contribution in a District recreation, sport, or park program or special event.

Outstanding Senior – Honors a senior citizen (65 plus) who has provided outstanding participation, volunteer service, or other significant contribution in a District recreation, sport, or park program or special event.

Outstanding Volunteer -  Honors any person who has provided outstanding participation, volunteer service, or other significant contribution in a District recreation, sport, or park program or special event.

Outstanding Professional – Any person whose significant contribution was made while serving as an employee of, or consultant for, a member District, i.e., General Manager, legal counsel, consulting firm, or similar vocational role.

Outstanding Board Member – Any person whose significant contribution to the community was made while serving as a District Board Member, current or past.  Nominees must have served one term (four years) to be eligible.

Jim Meredith Award of Excellence -  Jim Meredith was for decades one of the foremost advocates for Recreation and Park Districts in the state of California.  In his honor, CARPD will recognize an individual who exemplifies the meaning of  “going above and beyond the ordinary and the expected” and one who advocates extensively for the betterment of the field of parks and recreation. 

 

2012 Guidelines for CARPD Awards Nominations:

  1. The Nominee should have a distinguished record of faithful and honorable service to the park and recreation field. The nominee should demonstrate a contribution that has advanced the prk and recreation concept through foresight, planning and development to the benefit of the nominating member District.
  2. For board member nominees, he or she shall have served on the member District board for not less than one term or four (4) years.
  3. Judging of nominations and selection for awards will be based solely on the basis of information submitted.
  4. No award recipient expenses will be paid for by CARPD, including the awards banquet. The nominating member District will bear all expenses.
